Carrier Sales
POSITION SUMMARY
As a Carrier Sales Representative, you will work with our network of trucking carriers and build new partnerships to move freight efficiently and cost-effectively. You’ll monitor market pricing, secure reliable capacity, and coordinate the movement of specialized loads.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Negotiate rates with carriers to maximize profit.
• Source, secure, and schedule carriers to pick up and deliver freight on time.
• Dispatch drivers and provide accurate load details, directions, and requirements.
• Manage carrier issues, resolve problems, and handle accessorials or discrepancies.
• Maintain strong working relationships with carriers, customers, and internal teams.
• Prospect new carriers and grow SOAR Transportation’s carrier base daily.
• Track and document available equipment, preferred lanes, and carrier capabilities.
• Review carrier credentials to ensure compliance with company standards.
• Send rate confirmations and verify receipt.
• Communicate capacity needs and opportunities to sales and business development.
• Support new team members and contribute to process improvements.
• Ensure all booked loads are fully covered before end of day.
• Maintain company, employee and customers confidentiality
• Maintain proper attendance and punctuality to ensure that the department is operated in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
• Ability to work on any SOAR Transportation site or SOAR Transportation customer location site while performing the essential functions of this position.
• Act as a fiduciary of SOAR Transportation.
• Through words and actions support SOAR Transportations mission, vision, and values; furthermore, actions and decisions will align with organizational guiding principles.
• Follow all work rules as written in the company handbook and company policies and procedures or as communicated by the company Human Resources Department.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
• High school diploma required; some college preferred.
• 1–2 years in sales, customer service, or carrier sales/brokerage preferred.
• Strong communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
• Experience with specialized transportation or hazmat (preferred).
• Proficient with computer systems and quick to learn new tools.
• Driven, competitive, and committed to continuous improvement.
• Effective multitasker with sound decision-making abilities.
KPI’s – these metrics will be fluid as market conditions move
• Total Calls: 80 calls per day
• Outbound Call Time: Minimum required daily call hours (2 hours) (tracked and reviewed)
• Carrier Offers: 20 offers per day -Future target: 30 offers per day as efficiency and pipeline improve
• Bookings: 10 bookings per day
• Carriers Added: 20 new carriers per day
• BDAT Performance: Maintain a minimum 70% BDAT score (buying freight below DAT benchmarks)
PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENT
• Ability to manage execution of load plans effectively.
• Ability to manage customer account set up as well as the operational aspects of the business.
• Ability to communicate customer requirements and service parameters internally.
• Ability to maintain and increase customer volumes and margins.
• Ability to identify customer transportation needs and effectively sell transportation solutions.
• Ability to identify profitable opportunities.
• Ability to maintain positive relationships with customers and other employees.
